Green shoots
So fragile
Freedom’s growth
So gradual
Waves of pain
Rush over my soul
Tear up the shoots
Stir up the soil
But the roots will remain
They are dug in deep
They begin to regrow
Inch by inch they creep
Pain will come again
But they always survive
These roots are stubborn
They will not be denied
With patience and persistence
They will eventually flower
When pain comes next
They’ll resist its power
Soon in your heart
A bed of flowers will sit
They’ll send seeds to others
Just choose not to quit
