Gems

Inside of me
I hold precious gems
My most treasured thoughts
As fragile as flower stems

I hide them in a chest
And I wait to see
If someone I meet
Will value me

Will they truly care?
Will they value my voice?
Will they cry at my sorrows
And in my triumphs, rejoice?

Or will they sweep them aside
Like common stones?
And thrust out their treasure chests
To bring out their own

And so still I wait
On a dark street corner
My chest in hand
Will anyone wonder?

But these gems will rot
Inside this chest
And be lost forever
If no one passes the test

So, I must take the risk
And open this box
Not waiting for the perfect person
My path to cross
