Dawn & Dusk

I was locked in a cage
In chains so tight
Now my eyes have been opened
I see beyond this night

I see bright stars in the heavens
Far greater than my darkest fears
I see vast oceans of water
That dwarf my litany of tears

I feel the roar of a hurricane
Driving my dark clouds away
I feel the soft touch on my skin
Of a long-awaited rain

If you have felt pain
Burrow under your ribs
Been oppressed by darkness
Like a second eyelid

Then imagine the relief
As it is all suddenly lifted
And the glass of your soul
Is no longer misted

It is like seeing the sunrise
After a century-long night
The feeling of leaving the ground
As you take your first flight

I cradle this feeling
In a quiet place in my heart
And I thank my Lord and my Maker
For never giving me up
