The Pyre

A lament

I lay my body
Onto the pyre
I sacrifice myself
To the roaring fire

Every morning
This is the price I pay
To keep on the fight
To see another day

Every day
I have to make the choice
To lay down my desires
To silence their voice

I have to feel the burn
Of the right choices made
Like a man condemned to the desert
Scrambling desperately for shade

And when the sacrifice is done
And the price is paid
I gather up the pieces
To prepare to do it all again
