Dark Tunnels

Enter the dark tunnels
Join the fervent crowds
We’ve all heard the rumours
That there are treasures to be found

We disperse into
This underground maze
Our search is our own
To hunt the thrills we crave

As we go deeper
We find that we’re alone
We delight in the knowledge
That what we find, we will own

But time melts away
And you notice that you’re cold
Your lantern is fading
And there hasn’t been a hint of gold

A deathly silence hangs
You call out for the others
But either they cannot hear you
Or they are not at all bothered

Clouds of dust gather
As eerie sounds resonate
The darkness thickens
As your heart rate accelerates

Whichever way you turn
The walls are narrowing
Now you can hear the others
Their screams truly harrowing

It is only then
That you realise the truth
That the treasure they were talking about
Was actually you
