A young man has an affliction
Suffers from a curse
It’s been there his whole life
He’s had it since birth
He can feel your emotions
As if they were his own
When he sees someone wince
His insides groan
Describe your situation
And he will experience it
Open the sorrows of your heart
And he will descend into its pit
He can’t shut it off
He knows, he has tried
He did it one time
And he started to die
Life lost its meaning
He became devoid
When he numbed out the pain
He also numbed out his joy
So he let his gift function
As His Maker had planned
But put in firm boundaries
So things don’t get out of hand
He learned when to stop
And when to shield himself
He learned how to rest
And when to ask for help
And the pains he felt
He channelled into two places
First, to His Lord
And then to these pages
He has always had this ability
It has always been around
But he is only starting to see
It’s no curse, it’s a crown
Curse or Crown
