Dread

I am lifting a mountain
Holding back the tide
My back pressed against the door
From a killer trying to take my life

I am holding off his blade
Inches from my heart
On the brink of a waterfall
With my ship breaking apart

I see beneath the ground I stand
To a bottomless pit below
Behind every gate and door
I see hidden foes

For so long I have tried
To turn things around
Every time I build up
It all comes crashing down

I hold my fear
In the palm of my hand
And as I look at it
I start to understand

The old must die
For the new to be born
It takes a resurrection
For the past’s connections to be torn

Only in failure
Can you learn how to succeed
When you are attacked by enemies
Then you look for what you need

So I yield this destruction
To the One that I trust
Put my failings, my shortcomings
Into the care of His love
