Cavernous hole
Where a heart once was
The chest gapes open
Showing all its flaws

Life wrenched the heart loose
And bitterness embalmed it
Put the heart in a chest
And buried it in that pit

The heart must return
For him to live again
But for him to reach it
He must dig through his pain

Cavernous hole
With a heart, now filled
The chest sealed over
By the Maker’s touch, healed
