The Tightrope

Do what you love
To break yourself free
But if I do too much
My mind cracks beneath me

It’s a balancing act
Edging across a tightrope
But I have no balancing bar
So how can I have any hope?

I am left to struggle
To find the answers on my own
But whichever way I fall
I hear everyone’s groans

Work harder
Accomplish your dreams
Then you’ll feel better
Trust me, you’ll see

You’re pushing too hard
You need to rest
Do something fun
Don’t try to be your best

Your advice makes no sense
You lack perspective
You only look to your own life
So proud it’s effective

Finally I realised
That I had to know myself
I had to know my God
And to receive His help

I don’t need to be in a crowd
Or to be known by many
I can thrive being alone
As long as I am not lonely

Instead of fixing my eyes
On my goals so far away
I focus on enjoying the journey
On taking it day by day

So instead of being
Someone’s entertainment act
I am a persistent mountaineer
Following God’s path
