Dark Rose

I saw a flower yesterday
Hidden among the ash
A dark rose
Peeking through the burnt grass

It was frail
But it was there all the same
Coming forth
Despite the lack of rain

I decided to sit with it
And watch it grow
Ignore the devastation
That had laid waste to my hopes

The more time I spent with it
The more I started to see
That this was just the first
The first of many seeds

They feed not on water
Nor are nurtured by the soil
They flourish when gratitude
Flows from my soul

The roses emerged
Changing to vivid colours
Now the destruction in my life
Has been totally covered
