When Words Were Gone

Life set fire
To what I loved most
Stole the words from my lips
Like an unseen ghost

The seat of my ideas
My passions, my inspirations
Was turned into ash
Reduced to a charred wasteland

Where words once flowed
There was a cavernous void
The fountain in my heart
Was savagely destroyed

Words evaporated
From the tip of my tongue
My hands dwindled away
The dexterity gone

Shame put chains on me
Told me not to raise my voice
And so I fell into silence
And into silence, was lost

But like the dawn
The words came back
And the ice that encased me
Started to crack

My well of words
Was unstopped again
And a dove from the sky
Into my hand, put a pen
