Box of Fears

She packed all her fears
Into a little box
She did this when
She was still very young

It was not deliberate
It was subconscious
She did not suppress
Her pain on purpose

It rattled in her mind
For years and years
As she filled it with more
And more of her fears

She did not understand
This turmoil inside
So she wore a mask
To get through life

It took a long time
To find that box
Buried in the mountain
Of her mind’s chaos

And slowly, over time
She began unpacking
Confronting each fear
That she felt was shackling

Now she can sit
By herself in silence
And not be afraid
Of that box of violence
