The Masked Man

A lament

No one cared who I was
Until I put on the mask
Until I made fitting in
My most important task

Only then did they
Let me in their circle
Even though for me
It was extremely painful

So I tightened the mask
To keep the pain at bay
But this meant I had nothing
Worthwhile to say

So now I am lost
Hidden in the shadows
The mask hiding a face
That is truly harrowed

And so I mourn
At the success of my mission
And simmering contempt
Stirs an outcast villain
