Rotten Remnants

A lament

My spoken words are wooden
Rotten remnants of tree carcass
So flimsy and flaky
Failing to fulfil their purpose

They fall to the ground
Hollow and frail
For mould and fungus
To turn them stale

I plant them carefully
Try to build a forest
But a soft wind blows
Leaving me embarrassed

So I embalmed my heart
In thick white wax
And allowed my emotions
To shrivel into black
