A lament
Ennui is a fungus
Eating at the brain
A wretched infection
Of unspeakable pain
Beautiful paintings
Melt into grey mush
As soon as you lift
The cover to look
At a brush of your hand
Glowing jewels fade
Their serene texture convulsing
Into rugged rock again
Beautiful melodies
Turn to discord and bickering
As soon as they know
That you are listening
The pen that for so long
Was your closest friend
Will no longer write
The words you intend
And so it sets in
Like rot to a corpse
As you are locked in a prison
To be forever bored
