So many stairs
But they all lead nowhere
For every floor of this building
Has fallen into disrepair
Empty offices
With bright blinking lights
Overturned tables
Give shelter to mice
Scattered chairs
Litter the halls
As unhooked phones
Are endlessly called
Heartless machines
Beep and crackle
Printers print pages
Of mindless babble
The manager’s door
Lies wide open
And finally it’s clear
Why this place is broken
For sitting in
The black swivel chair
A younger version of me
Cries in despair
Overwhelmed
