Twisted Trees

A lament

The trees used to speak
Used to remember
They used to flower
In all types of weather

Now they are bare
Their branches twisted
They barely speak
And when they do, it’s fiction

Once tall and gracious
Now gnarled and cruel
They hold cracked husks
Where they once held jewels

The trees used to speak
Used to remember
But now this mind garden
Has become a desert
