Black Heartstone

They took my heartstone
To a poisoned river
They held it under
Until my soul withered

That precious gem
They stained it black
Drained its goodness
Before giving it back

It sank in my chest
A dragging anchor
Bound to the sinking
Ship of my anguish

I sat with it
By the pool of my tears
And wept until
Shimmering cracks appeared

The glowing jewel underneath
Had not been harmed
And the black stains have only
Accentuated its charm
