A lament
Depression is like
Being locked in a cupboard
When the mansion of your mind
Is waiting to be discovered
It’s like finding an oyster
With a blackened pearl
Or rockets with no fuel
On a dying world
It’s like a record that has
Become stuck on the chorus
Seeing a single band of colour
In a sky lit with auroras
Like having to chew gum
While a feast lies before you
Being given secret knowledge
But your jaws are sealed with glue
It’s like being trapped
In a well underground
While an enemy sends
Taunting updates down
It’s living in the basement
Of a magnificent palace
While your true love’s heart
Grows cold and calloused
