Desert winds
Harbinger of death
Lilac flower wilting
In the desert’s hot breath
The velvet petals
Are cruelly ripped
Dignity unravelling
As the plant is stripped
The swirling sands
Like a veil, drop
And the flower sees
What it has become
It is a rag-doll skeleton
A twisted scarecrow
A creaking, cracked signpost
Of misery and woe
Desert Flower
