A lament
I’ve spent my life
Dancing to someone else’s tune
Their voices like pipe flutes
Telling me what to do
Whenever I got
The rhythm right
It quickly changed
Just out of spite
I danced until
My feet blistered
Until my knees cracked
And my soul withered
Then one day
I could dance no more
My legs gave way
And I crumbled to the floor
