Pedestal

Take me down
From your pedestal
Let me be normal
Let me be a fool

Let me joke
Let me laugh
Make funny faces
Do a silly dance

I am not a saint
With a halo on my head
I am a joker, a jester
A confidant, a friend

Take me out
Of this straitjacket
And I will show you
What true laughter is

But now I realise
That it was me
That allowed you to
Decide what I could be

I burdened myself
With your expectations
But now I realise
I never had to listen
